We celebrate the rich musical landscape of nature in a Prom inspired by the best-selling book The Lost Words, which revives disappearing words that describe the natural world. With a brand-new ‘spell’ by the book’s author Robert Macfarlane, and live paintings from Jackie Morris, who created the original artwork, the programme includes the nightingale, quail and cuckoo calls from Beethoven’s ‘Pastoral’ Symphony, the Arctic bird cries of Rautavaara’s Cantus Arcticus and the carefree flight of Vaughan Williams’s The Lark Ascending. A unique event for all the family.
Booking for this Prom opens at 9am on Friday 10 May.
Don’t let the wig or 18th-century attire fool you. Whether escaping from tigers at the Tower of London to being a Casanova worthy of a sit-com, Haydn was one seriously interesting person.
