Biography

Born in Bayonne in the south of France, Joan began learning the violin at the age of seven. He gained his Diplôme d’Etudes Musicales from the Conservatoire National de Région de Paris and went on to study at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris. In 2011, he graduated with a BMus from the Royal College of Music and went on to successfully complete his studies on the MPerf program with Professor Ani Schnarch.

Joan was a member of the French Youth Orchestra and has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in a number of festivals including Keshet Eilon Summer Mastercourse, Bowdoin International Music Festival and Aurora Music Festival. He has had the chance to learn from great musicians including Gordan Nikolitch, Olivier Charlier, Zsolt-Tihamér Visontay and Itzhak Rashkovsky among others. He has also been fortunate enough to play under the baton of Bernard Haitink, Vladimir Ashkenazy and Edward Gardner. 

In 2009, Joan collaborated with the LSO on the Take a Bow project at the Salle Pleyel in Paris. More recently he has been on tour in Spain with the Orchestre de Chambre d’Auvergne and has been playing regularly with them ever since. He has also performed at the National Theatre in a musical by Tori Amos, The Light Princess.


QUICKFIRE QUESTIONS

If you could play another instrument, what would it be and why?
I would like to play the guitar because I think the sound of the acoustic guitar is amazing and I really like also the fact that you can use it both as a melodic and harmonic instrument. It also very versatile and can be used in all music genres. I really love flamenco guitar. 

What is your earliest musical memory?
I think that it is my parents singing in the car while going on holidays.
