My first interaction with the trumpet came when rummaging through my parents’ cupboard as a child and stumbling across my dad’s instrument that he had played as a child. I was instantly hooked, and from the age of 7 began lesson as a part of Bromley Youth Music Trust.

I never expected to study the trumpet further than at school, but after some last-minute applications to a few conservatoires, I was awarded a place to study at the Royal College of Music. It was a strange feeling accepting this place and realising that my whole 7 years at school preparing to go to a ‘normal’ university was suddenly thrown out the window and it was a completely unique start.
At college, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to play in a variety of ensembles, ranging from chamber groups composed of trumpet and strings, to large scale orchestral projects, such as performing Stravinsky’s ‘The Firebird’. I also had the opportunity to take part in the brass quintet for the London Sinfonietta academy as well as getting to attend and play in rehearsals with the English National Opera as a part of their evolve scheme.
During my studies, I was fortunate to get opportunities to play with leading orchestras from across the UK and Ireland including the London Symphony Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and National Symphony Orchestra.
For me, music has become such a huge part of my life, and I’m constantly going to concerts and checking out new recordings from my favourite artists and orchestras. The Strauss Project with Andris Nelsons, the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig is currently my favourite listening! When I do switch off from classical music, I enjoy relaxed and easy listening music, such as Rex Orange County or Easy Life.
When I’m not playing the trumpet, you can generally find me making and experimenting with coffee. Having trained at a coffee shop over the past year, I have enjoyed the distraction from music and found a real passion for making the perfect coffee!

QUICKFIRE QUESTIONS
What is your favourite piece of music and why do you love it?
Tchaikovsky's 'Romeo and Juliet' overture! This was the piece I played with BYMT where I realised that classical music was my favourite genre and I remember having the hairs on the back of my neck standing for days.
Where’s your favourite place to listen to music and why?
Anywhere where I can apply the music to the situation or surroundings. I love listening to a powerful piece of music whilst driving through a picturesque landscape or sitting by a river.
