Two New Trustees Join the Board

NEW TRUSTEES

We are delighted to welcome two new Trustees to join the Board of Southbank Sinfonia: Sarah Derbyshire MBE FRSA (Chief Executive, Orchestras Live) and Mindy Kilby (Director of Finance, Royal Opera House). 

Sarah Derbyshire is Chief Executive of Orchestras Live, a ground-breaking organisation that puts into practice its belief that ‘Orchestras are for Everyone’. Previous roles include leading Live Music Now and the National Children’s Orchestras. In 2015 Sarah launched a report on music education Musical Routes: A New Landscape for Music Education in partnership with the Royal Philharmonic Society. She is Chair of NYMAZ (the young people’s music development charity for North Yorkshire), a trustee of the Mayfield Valley Arts Trust, and on the Board of the University of York Music Press.

Sarah says ‘I am a huge admirer of Southbank Sinfonia’s approach to delivering world-class professional development for young players whilst exploring what an orchestra can and should be in the 21st Century. I am honoured to be joining the Board and look forward to working with my fellow Trustees to support the orchestra’s continued development.’ 

Mindy Kilby is the Director of Finance at the Royal Opera House. Qualifying in the US, she has extensive accounting and finance experience, predominantly in the charity sector. She has spent the last 18 years at the Royal Opera House, where she has been Director of Finance since September 2013. Mindy is also a Trustee of Tête à Tête Opera and a member of the National Opera Studio’s Audit Committee.

Mindy says ‘I am honoured to join the board of Southbank Sinfonia. Their work with young artists makes a vital contribution to the overall cultural ecology.’ 

Sean Finnan, Chair of Southbank Sinfonia, says ‘We are very excited that Mindy and Sarah are joining our Board of Trustees. Southbank Sinfonia has a wide-reaching and challenging brief as a charity and we are proud of the work our Board does providing guidance and governance to the team. It is with this in mind that we have sought out additional Board members with deep relevant expertise as well as a broad understanding of our space. Mindy and Sarah both fulfilled the brief admirably and bring a strong sense of passion for our mission developing young musicians.’ 

Mindy and Sarah join the Board of Trustees in May 2018 which already comprises Michael Berman CBE, Lord Filkin CBE, Sean Finnan, Baroness McIntosh of Hudnall, Simon Over, Mark Payne, Duncan Sutherland and Katharine Verney.
