Biography

Luke was born in Bath and grew up in Bristol. He began playing the flute aged eight. After playing with local flute choirs, wind orchestras and jazz bands, he won a major scholarship to study at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama (RWCMD) in 2006.

Luke was born in Bath and grew up in Bristol. He began playing the flute aged eight. After playing with local flute choirs, wind orchestras and jazz bands, he won a major scholarship to study at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD) in 2006. 

After graduating with a first class BMus degree in 2010, he was offered scholarships to study at all the London conservatoires, choosing to accept a place on the Orchestral Training master’s course at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama (GSMD), supported by the Musician's Benevolent Fund and Elizabeth Evans Trust. He graduated from the Guildhall in September 2012 with an MPerf with Distinction. 

Luke has won the solo woodwind prizes at both the RWCMD and GSMD, as well as the June Emerson Launchpad Award. Whilst at Guildhall he studied with Sarah Newbold, Philippa Davies and Ian Clarke. He has been assistant to Sarah Newbold on her Flute Summer School for the past two years. 

Luke has performed at venues in London and across the country such as Barbican Hall, St Martin-in-the-Fields, St David's Hall, Wales Millenium Centre and to destinations further afield such as Zaragoza in Spain. 

Since graduating from Guildhall, Luke has enjoyed freelancing with Welsh National Opera, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and teaching at the Royal Welsh College Junior Conservatoire. 

In his spare time Luke enjoys swimming, losing regularly at squash, films and cooking.
