At the age of seven, I started playing the trumpet after hearing a demonstration session at my primary school. At the age of 14, although having just achieved grade seven on the trumpet, I was struggling to move up in the bands at my secondary school and so I was offered the option to switch to the French horn. Since then, I have never looked back! This, however, did come with consequences as due to the progression I was making on the horn, I would have to give up my dream of becoming a racing driver, having won two club titles in 2004 and 2005. So, it made way for music - but I still rip up the track when I have the opportunity!
I had over ten years of fantastic tuition from Bromley Youth Music Trust, going on five tours with the wind band and symphony orchestra, and co-founding the brass dectet, Big Phat Brass as well as being in the music centre’s wind quintet and chamber choir. The success of the music service was highlighted with performances at the Music for Youth proms at the Royal Albert Hall - one of which involved me wearing a wig centre stage – and the winning of a gold medal at the World Music Contest in Kerkrade, the Netherlands.
In 2011, I commenced my undergraduate studies at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) spending four years up in Manchester. During my time there I played in many of their symphony and chamber orchestras as well as playing in a brass quintet, horn quartet, and a horn sextet.
After graduating from the RNCM, I migrated back to my native London to complete my master’s degree at the Royal Academy of Music (RAM). Like at RNCM, I played in many of the symphony orchestras as well as their operas and musical theatre performances, all culminating with an exciting performance of Mahler’s Symphony No.2 at Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre with Semyon Bychkov. On the first day at RAM, I co-founded a wind quintet, Moriarty Winds and we have since performed in many recitals, educational outreaches and school workshops. Last year, Moriarty Winds were the Chamber Music Fellows at RAM as well as chamber ensemble-in-residence with the Wigmore Hall Chamber Tots series.
Since graduating from RAM with a distinction and a diploma, I have performed with the BBC Philharmonic, Welsh National Opera, the Hallé Orchestra, Northern Ballet Sinfonia and the London Sinfonietta.
As well as performing, I am a passionate teacher. I have gone full circle and now teach brass at Bromley Youth Music Trust and direct a brass ensemble, Young Phat Brass.
In my spare time, I enjoy video gaming, watching sport and animated films, general knowledge quizzes and reading manga.
