Born in Cádiz, Spain, Claudia began learning the violin at the age of five. She studied at the Conservatorio Profesional de Amaniel in Madrid with Alfredo García, before moving to Barcelona to complete her bachelor’s degree at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya with Raquel Castro. Claudia then moved to London, achieving distinction in her master’s degree at Guildhall School of Music and Drama with David Takeno, and was awarded by Guildhall School Trust.
Claudia has performed numerous recitals and concerts across Europe, in festivals such as Festival International Les Violons de la Paix in Boulogne Sur Mer, France; Si Tous les Ports du Monde at the Theatre of St Malo, France; in Sonderborg, Denmark; Ciclo de las Noches Clásicas, Cádiz; St James’s Church in Paddington, London, and XXXII Manuel de Falla Music Festival in Cadiz, among others. During her time in London, Claudia has performed in a number of prestigious venues including the Barbican and St Martin-in-the-Fields.
Claudia’s orchestral experience across London and Europe includes performing with London Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle; West-Eastern Divan Orchestra of the Barenboim-Said Foundation; Camerata Quartet Casals; Symphonic Orchestra of Gran Teatre del Liceu, and many more.
As a concert soloist, Claudia has performed with orchestras such as South Denmark Philharmonic Orchestra, Camerata Vocal e Instrumental del Gran Teatro Falla in Cádiz, Alvarez Beigbeder Orchestra, Jerez and the Symphony Orchestra of the Catalonia College of Music, under the baton of Edmon Colomer.
A keen chamber musician, Claudia plays regularly with the Trisquel Arts Ensemble, a chamber music group with whom she has been giving recitals in the UK and Spain. Aside from classical music, she performs flamenco and folklore music, as well as flamenco fusioned with classical music with her Trio Zuloaga.
What’s on your playlist right now?
I like listening to classical music as well as to other styles of music. On my playlist there is one of my favourite symphonies which is Mahler Symphony No.2 ‘Resurrection’, performed by the Berliner Philharmoniker and Sir Simon Rattle. I also love listening to flamenco, therefore I have Paco de Lucía and Camarón de la Isla. There is, as well, some Red Hot Chilli Peppers and their Californication, which is one of my favourite songs.
What do you do with your time when you’re not playing music?
I used to ride horses when I had time and I totally loved it. I would say if I hadn’t become a musician I would have loved to be a professional horsewoman to do competitions. I’m an animal lover, I adore them.
Tell us something about yourself that might surprise us
As I’m from the south of Spain where flamenco comes from, I have been listening to it since I was born. I love listening to flamenco and when I finished my bachelor in Barcelona, I did my final research about the approach of classical music and flamenco, in particular from a violinist point of view. Since then I have been working on the technical and interpretative elements of playing flamenco with the violin. I personally think that widening our musical knowledge can enrich us and make us grow, both as a person and a musician. This opens the door to creativity.
