Glories of the Rhine
Robert Schumann Symphony No.3, 'Rhenish'
Johannes Brahms Symphony No.3
Gábor Takács-Nagy conductor
Experience the Rhineland at its most euphoric. A gloriously exuberant theme sees Schumann send us straight into this symphony filled with energetic impulses and brilliance. Take a journey through the Rhine, from the relaxed atmosphere of the second movement’s Morning on the Rhine to a musical depiction of Cologne Cathedral.

This musical tour doesn’t stop here, as Brahms’ stay in the Rhineland must have influenced his own musical output too. Listen out for the clear echoes of Schumann’s symphony in Brahms’ Symphony No.3. The most personal of Brahms’ four symphonies, this is a glorious Romantic work, yet deeply troubled too.

THERE WILL BE A PRE-CONCERT TALK AT 6.10PM WITH GÁBOR TAKÁCS-NAGY FOR ALL TICKET HOLDERS.
