Rush Hour Livestream #4: Inspiration
Thomas Adès Three Studies from Couperin
Maurice Ravel Le Tombeau de Couperin
Kurt Schwertsik Schrumpf-Sinfonie
Ludwig van Beethoven Symphony No.8
Jamie Phillips Conductor

With music spanning 194 years, join our fellowship as they explore the music of Adés, Beethoven, Ravel and Schwertsik.

A programme of two halves exploring musical inspirations. The first two pieces of the programme, Thomas Adés' Three Studies from Couperin and Maurice Ravel's Le Tombeau de Couperin, are linked by the inspiration and legacy of French Baroque composer, Francois Couperin.

Kurt Schwertsik's Schrumpf Sinfonie and Ludwig van Beethoven's Eighth Symphony are bound by style and genre. Composed in 1999, the Schrumpf Sinfonie is short in duration, but full of musical twists and turns. Beethoven's Eighth Symphony saw a change in the composer's style in 1812, leaving behind the thunder, power and long durations, for a more novel and easier style.

We welcome the talented Jamie Phillips to Southbank Sinfonia for his debut with the orchestra.

Streamed live from our new home, St John’s Smith Square, join us for an hour of inspiring classical music.
