RUSH HOUR #3: CONTRAST
Jean-Philippe Rameau Suite from Les Paladins
WA Mozart Symphony No.41 'Jupiter'
Christian Curnyn conductor

The last hurrah, a penultimate deep breath and jubilant exhalation. For Mozart’s final symphony he decides to fill his music with as much contrast as our ears and emotions can take. Sublime, quiet moments explode with joyful exuberance in this composition full of extremes.

In Les Paladins we see the competition between two very different men over the beautiful Argie. Imprisoned in the elderly Anselme’s castle – with unsavoury intentions – Argie’s heart longs for the heroic knight Atis. This tale is wrapped in baroque splendour, full of colourful and lively dances.
