RUSH HOUR #1: DAWN
Louise Farrenc Overture No.2
Ludwig van Beethoven Symphony No.6 'Pastoral'
Simon Over Conductor

Snow thaws and buds bloom as we greet the new orchestral season with Beethoven's idyllic 'Pastoral' Symphony. Yes, it may still be February but this vivid depiction of the Viennese countryside serves as a fresh beginning for Southbank Sinfonia to welcome our new 2020 orchestra.

A foreboding introduction of Beethovenian grandeur announces the arrival of French composer and virtuoso pianist Louise Farrenc. As the first woman to be appointed Professor of Piano at the Paris Conservatoire, Farrenc was not one to be intimidated by her male counterparts with this perfectly crafted Overture standing alongside the greats of history in more than equal measure.
