Igor Stravinsky The Rake's Progress
Lionel Friend Conductor

As our players join forces with their operatic counterparts in British Youth Opera, Southbank Sinfonia makes an autumn ‘transfer’ to the West End’s Peacock Theatre.

Igor Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress was completed in 1951 to a libretto by W.H. Auden and Chester Kallman, based on the pictures of William Hogarth. Considered to be one of the great English language operas of the twentieth century, The Rake’s Progress provides wonderfully rich and challenging material for principals and chorus. This will be BYO’s third staging of the opera, following previous productions at the Queen Elizabeth Hall (1997) and the Peacock Theatre (2009).
