Donning gut strings and authentic period bows, our orchestral time-machine transports us back to an era of emotional exuberance, artistic grandeur and rebellious spirits pushing rules to their limits.

Purcell writes of battles between King Arthur’s Britons and the Saxons, while Corelli’s Concerto Grosso provides snapshots of Italian fashion. From France, Rameau showcases the dances of the day and Bach at his most lyrical pitches two contrasting personalities in conversation.

Written for King George II’s return from the Battle of Dettingen in 1743,  Handel’s Dettingen Te Deum is a wonderfully celebratory work, joyful, dramatic and full of contrasting moods.
