MUSIC DIRECTOR'S APPEAL 2018

When we launched Southbank Sinfonia, I hoped the experience would help young players to soar, propelling them to remarkable places.

We see on our annual expedition to Italy that they learn so much from performing overseas and always rise to the challenge. Now we have been offered a jewel: the opportunity for Southbank Sinfonia to perform for the very first time in Berlin, the birthplace of so much great orchestral music. Such a prospect sits beyond our usual budget, but we believe this is the moment to pull out all the stops for an occasion our players will treasure for life.

Music Director and Principal Conductor

KONZERTHAUS, BERLIN

WEDNESDAY 15 AUGUST 2018
Find out more about the concert here.

The opportunity for our players to perform at Berlin’s renowned Konzerthaus could not be refused, despite the financial challenge it brings. Having taken the leap, and with one generous supporter having set the ball rolling, we hope that you will also wish to get involved and help get the orchestra to Berlin (and back again!)

We have £15,000 still to raise: please give whatever you can to help us realise this dream. As a guide:

  • £25 will cover one player’s airport transfers or a day’s meals

  • £70 is the cost of a cabin seat for a cello so they don’t get damaged in the hold

  • £90 is the price of one player’s accommodation for two nights

  • £140 will pay for one player’s return flight

  • £300 is the complete travel, accommodation and subsistence for each player

  • £500 will cover the hire of either all the percussion or two double basses

Your support means so much to us

“I am so excited about the possibility of being part of the Young Euro Classic Festival with Southbank this year! It is a unique festival with young musicians and orchestras from all over the world.”

If we are fortunate enough to raise sufficient funds to fully cover the costs of this project, any additional funds received over and above this amount will be used to support Southbank Sinfonia's ongoing work.
