Anghiari Festival

Frequently asked questions

This page contains answers to some of the most common questions about visiting the Anghiari Festival.

When is the 2023 festival?

The 2023 Anghiari Festival will take place between Saturday 15 - Friday 21 July 2023. The last concert of the festival will be in the evening on Friday 21 July 2023.

How do I get to Anghiari?

The easiest and most often cheapest option is to fly and hire a car. Anghiari is located between a number of airports, the most popular being Perugia (1 hour drive), Florence (1.5 hour drive) and Bologna (2 hour drive).

More information on travelling to Anghiari is available here.

Do I need a car?

Although it is possible to enjoy the festival if you are not able to hire a car, we recommend having access to one if possible. Festival events take place both in Anghiari and neighbouring towns and villages. If you do not have a car, we can recommend a local taxi service to help you reach these venues.

Do I have to be in Anghiari for the whole festival?

Visitors to the festival are welcome for as many days as they like, and there is plenty to see in the wider Tuscany region. That said, most visitors cherish staying for the full week to experience all that the festival has to offer.

Where can I stay?

There are accommodation options to suit every budget, from villa rentals to nearby camp sites. Find out more on our accommodation page.

When is the programme announced?

The festival programme is announced in early summer, both on the website and direct to subscribers of Anghiari Festival email updates. To join our Anghiari Festival mailing list, please click here.

What time are the concerts?

Many festival days include a chamber concert at 6pm and a full orchestral concert at 9pm, although in striving to make the experience as memorable as possible there are variations around this. Some days also feature a morning concert or event.

How much do tickets cost?

The majority of concerts in the festival are free to attend. There are usually some ticketed concerts which will be available to book once the programme is announced.

How do I book for special events?

In addition to the programme of public concerts, we organise a number of events for Southbank Sinfonia Friends and guests. These often include Prosecco receptions, private recitals and lunches. Details of events will be sent to the Anghiari Mailing List. Sign up here.

Can I book specific seats for concerts?

Concerts at the Anghiari Festival feature unreserved seating and you are free to choose where to sit on a first-come, first-served basis. If you would like a specific seat, we recommend you arrive in plenty of time before the concert begins.

Are families welcome?

Yes! The festival is renowned for its relaxed, informal atmosphere and families of all ages are welcome to join us.

Is there a dress code?

There are no rules for what to wear, in keeping with the festival's relaxed atmosphere. Please note that a number of the concerts take place outside and evenings can become chilly. Although Tuscany is known for its beautiful sunshine, the weather can be unpredictable so we recommend packing an umbrella just in case!

Do you have any tips for first time attendees?

Let us know you are coming. Sign up to our mailing list here, and in the months leading up to the festival we will email you with regular updates. If we know you are coming we can make sure you get the best out of your festival experience.

Arrive in plenty of time for concerts. This is especially true for some of the smaller chamber venues and churches which when busy offer standing room only for latecomers.
